The culmination of U.S. military half-tracks

The U.S. Army had been researching half-tracks since the late 1920s, paying attention to their high off-road performance, but with the start of World War II, mechanization of the army became important. When it comes to urgent issues, over 40,000 units were mass-produced during the war, starting with the M2 half-track, which became the first legal vehicle, followed by the M3 and M3A1. This greatly increased the mobility of Allied ground forces. The Half Track M3A2 is the final production model that was developed by incorporating all of the experience gained from these series of Half Track battles. The vehicle body is an open-top type using hardened surface armour, and the maximum capacity is 12 fully armed soldiers. The engine is a White in-line six-cylinder gasoline engine with an output of 143 horsepower and a maximum speed of 72 km/h. Equipped with tracks that are entirely covered with rubber, common to American half-tracks, the excellent suspension and front wheel drive also provide good running performance and off-road performance. It was put into action from the end of 1943 as a multi-purpose vehicle primarily for transporting troops and supplies, and fought bravely on battlefields across the country until the end of the war. -In addition to personal carriers (troop transport vehicles), various self-propelled guns have also been developed and a large number are in production. Furthermore, after the war, it was used by Japan's Self-Defence Forces and other countries around the world, and some vehicles continued to be in active service into the 1970s.
